Massachusetts library accepts photos of cats in return for late or damaged books
Imagine clearing your library debt with the purrfect currency: cat pictures!
This March, the Worcester Public Library (WPL) in Massachusetts launched a meow-gical program called “Felines for Fee Forgiveness!” Here’s the whisker-bending deal:
- Lost or damaged a library book? No worries! Show them a picture of your adorable feline friend (a drawing, magazine clipping, or even a famous internet cat works too!).

- Not a cat person? No problem! They’re accepting honorary cat photos of dogs, raccoons, or even a majestic capybara!

This brilliant idea aims to encourage folks to return borrowed materials and rediscover the library’s treasures. The response is a roaring success! Hundreds of items found their way back, and the library even created a special “cat wall” showcasing the submitted pictures.

But wait, there’s more! “March Meowness” isn’t just about fines. The library is also hosting a bunch of fun cat-themed activities, including:
- A screening of the movie “Cats” (paw-sitively a must-watch for cat lovers!)
- A “cat-eye” makeup tutorial (feline fierce!)
- De-stressing cuddle sessions with shelter cats (because who wouldn’t want that?)
- DIY cat crafts (unleash your inner artist!)
- And even a purr-fect scavenger hunt!

After all, cats and books are a purrfect match! Both offer endless curiosity, adventure, and the chance to snuggle up with something you love. So why not celebrate them both this March?
